Founder@ Interview
With Dark Joseph Ravine
“I learned from Kim Kardashian, “life is never about you, it’s about helping as many people as you can”. This is something I would encourage all entrepreneurs to remember when doing any form of business. This is something I always focus on so that is the advice I give.” – Dark Joseph Ravine
Today we feature Dark Joseph Ravine, the founder at Focus Five Group. We hear their story in their own words, their successes, their challenges and their insights.
Let’s start by getting to know you. Can you please tell us a little bit about you and what you do?
My name is Joseph. I am publicly known as “Dark Joseph Ravine”. I originally had a media site called Kindness for Success, an award winning Children’s book called Watch Out! It’s Nolan, and a TV Show called, The Dark Joseph Ravine Show. As of this point, I am currently operating a marketing agency called “Focus Five Group”. The marketing we mostly do is to help people go viral and build their following on social media to help change their lives for the better.
A great introduction and start to this interview. Can you please tell us, how did you start, from what age, and what made you decide to change direction and start?
I started doing Kindness for Success in the summer of 2021. It was supposed to be an online store with items to help promote positivity and kindness. That strategy was not working for me so I switched it around summer of 2023 to a media outlet where we share blog posts from ourselves and others to teach people how to live better lives.
In 2022, I released my children’s book, which won an award in the summer of 2023 as well. In the summer of 2023, I also started my TV show to interview people who are all about making positive changes in the world. Since the start of this year, I realized everything I am doing is all just forms of marketing so I decided to stick mostly to my marketing agency, Focus Five Group.
I had my marketing capability even before I started everything else, but I did not take it seriously till January 2024. I personally have a major following across my social media pages and am also able to help others obtain the same thing via my marketing agency.
Since I was able to grow myself on social media with my marketing, I thought to share it with the rest of the world because going viral can certainly change lives for the better. I personally think marketing is my true calling.
Thank you for that insight. So can you tell us…What does your business do and where is your company based?
My marketing agency, Focus Five Group, is located in North York, Ontario, Canada and is mostly dedicated to making social media posts go viral in a way that helps people look good. We do other forms of marketing as well, but social media is our area of expertise.
We specialize in TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube mostly. As the founder, I would only provide a service to my clients that I would do for myself. My team and I are very dedicated to making social media more positive and a happier place for everyone.
What’s the story behind your success? What led to your aha moment? how did you get to where you are now?
The success that I had from my marketing was figuring out social media algorithms. Many people have made false claims on how to get on the for you page or the recommended section, but I figured out my own method on how to do so. I did try many what many people on YouTube said and I personally found those methods to not work for me.
For me personally, I felt triggering the algorithm has a lot to do with the quality of the combined traffic your posts get. For example, likes comments, shares, watch time, etc. It is very much like SEO within social media to rank and get recommended.
A person cannot just buy a whole bunch of fake engagement and expect to rank, social media does not work that way. What is evaluated in social media is how interested are people in the post a long with the quality engagement as well. If there is a lot of genuine interest in the post, that’s what will make it get recommended. This method has worked very well for me and my clients.
If someone thought about this method, they would think that the social media algorithm thinks, “a lot of people are engaging with this post, it must be something good, let’s bring it out to more people”. I always say quality over quantity. Someone can have 1 million bad likes, comments, shares, etc. and reach no one and someone can have 100 thousand quality likes, comments, shares, etc. and reach millions of people.
Thank you for sharing that. What’s been your life’s biggest lesson so far?
As mentioned previously and what I was always taught in high school, quality over quantity. In the past, I used to focus too much on quantity and often times, I would just generate numbers as opposed to genuinely interested people.
Someone can grow a social media page with ads, giveaways, or anything that deals with marketing, but unless people are genuinely interested in your page, it will be like just increasing numbers.
I always say one loyal friend is better than one hundred fake friends. The biggest lesson I learn not only from this, but in my life as well is to remember quality over quantity. This is the only thing I would do differently if I did anything in my life all over again.
What I wish I knew before about businesses is that unless there is concrete evidence to prove someone is authentic about what they do, it is not a good idea to trust them because that is how we fall into traps. That is the main reason why I put my agency in my personal site.
If you were to go back in time, what piece of advice would you give to your younger self?
Growing up with a lot of belittlement as a child, I would say to my younger self, “Never let anyone tell you anything negative, what ever you are most passionate about, you go for it”.
What do you know now that you wished you had known before?
What I wish I knew before about businesses is that unless there is concrete evidence to prove someone is authentic about what they do, it is not a good idea to trust them because that is how we fall into traps. That is the main reason why I put my agency in my personal site.
What has been your greatest or proudest achievement or moment?
My proudest moment was finding something I absolutely love and turning it into a career. I love marketing very much. I always say if you find something you really love and turn it into a career, you will live the best and happiest life ever.
What future life goals do you want to achieve and why?
I personally hope to take my marketing up to the next level and do other forms of marketing such as in person marketing events. I feel in person marketing events will build trust so much more than anything online.
To finish our inspire questions…”We believe that sharing inspiring words can inspire others.” If there was one positive thing you would say to someone to inspire and empower them what would it be and why?
I learned from Kim Kardashian, “life is never about you, it’s about helping as many people as you can”. This is something I would encourage all entrepreneurs to remember when doing any form of business. This is something I always focus on so that is the advice I give.
