“Stay relentlessly curious, build your skills in AI workflows, and always prioritise meaningful storytelling. Authentic creative vision, supported by technical mastery, sets you apart.” – Douglas McGinness III.

Today, we are excited to welcome Douglas McGinness III, the founder of Animated Company. We hear their story in their own words, their successes, their challenges and their insights. Let’s begin…

Let’s start by getting to know you. Can you tell us a little about yourself, your
background, and what you do today?

I’m Douglas McGinness, founder of Animated Company. My career blends animation, visual
effects, and storytelling, fuelled by a passion for innovation and cutting-edge technology. Today,
I lead Animated Company, a studio pioneering the integration of AI with animation and
storytelling.

What does Animated Company do? Who do you serve, where are you based, and how can people engage with your product or service today?

Animated Company is an AI-driven animation studio based in London, UK. We help creative agencies, entertainment studios, and brands harness the power of AI for animation, storytelling, and content creation.

Our flagship AI ecosystem, Fossa, provides professional studios with advanced AI-powered production and post-production tools for 2D and 3D animation. You can engage with us through our website, LinkedIn, or by scheduling a personalised demo of our services and products.

How did you start Animated Company? What moment or insight made you decide to take the leap?

Animated Company was born from a personal insight: animation workflows were ripe for
disruption by AI, yet no one was fully bridging the technology with animation industry insights. After years of freelancing and working within traditional animation pipelines, I realised the
immense opportunity to redefine storytelling through AI.

The decisive moment was seeing early experiments receive enormous enthusiasm online, leading to conversations and projects with
some of the biggest entertainment studios in the world, and validating the market’s appetite for
innovation.

What is your mission, and which values shape your decision-making as a founder?

Our mission is to redefine storytelling by seamlessly integrating human creativity and AI
technology. Core values driving my decisions include curiosity, integrity, relentless innovation,

and creative courage—always placing human emotion and storytelling at the centre of
technology.

What sets your approach or product apart from others in your space?

Animated Company has been operating for approximately two years. Notable milestones
include securing engagements with major entertainment and production studios, and developing
our own internal AI powered software as part of a larger ecosystem called Fossa. We plan to
release a plug-in for After Effects using a small part of Fossa, as well as creating our original IP,
“The Myth,” an episodic animation that’s AI hybrid.

What trends, behaviours or shifts are you seeing in your industry that others might not be talking about yet?

The biggest opportunities lie in the ability to rapidly prototype and iterate stories using AI,
significantly reducing costs and expanding creative possibilities. The biggest challenge is
managing the market – there are industry changing shifts in AI seemingly every week, and being
nimble enough to adapt while also focused enough to create products of long-term value is a
challenge, albeit an exciting one.

If someone wants to try your product, collaborate or invest, what is the best next step?

AI will democratise high-quality animation, drastically lowering barriers to entry and enabling a
new generation of independent creators. We’re preparing by building robust, scalable tools (like
Fossa) and pioneering IP (such as “The Myth”) that positions us as thought leaders at the
intersection of AI and creative storytelling.

I believe we will also see more and more investment into interactive content, or content that straddles the line between passive and active entertainment – such as playable movies, etc. The ability to create AI worlds in seconds dramatically alters how people engage with content, and creates new opportunities.

For anyone looking to break into your industry or progress in their career, what advice would you give based on your experience as a founder?

My advice is to develop both storytelling intuition and technological fluency. Become
comfortable bridging these worlds. Stay relentlessly curious, build your skills in AI workflows,
and always prioritise meaningful storytelling. Authentic creative vision, supported by technical
mastery, sets you apart.

What three tools make your business run better, and why are they essential to your daily success?

  • Fossa (our proprietary AI tool suite): Essential for rapidly producing high-quality
    animations and enabling creative experimentation.
  • ComfyUI: Incredible platform for creating custom AI workflows for any use-case. A literal
    sandbox of AI.
  • LinkedIn: Vital for engaging our community, driving brand visibility, and staying
connected to industry trends and client relationships.

To finish our Founder@ questions… Our motto is “Everything starts with a founder.” We believe that sharing inspiring words can inspire others. What advice would you give to another founder or someone thinking about starting a business, and why?

Focus deeply, execute decisively, and align your vision with strategic clarity. Resist distraction
from superficial metrics. Authentic success comes from genuinely solving meaningful problems,
not chasing validation – difficult to do in a world where slapping ‘made with AI in 10 seconds’ can
generate a ton of engagement online. Embrace failures as critical data points and pivot
relentlessly towards the deepest possible impact.
