Interview with Fabrizio Moreira
“Anything you dream you go, and do it because you will get it done….” – Fabrizio Moreira
Today we feature Fabrizio Moreira, founder at Secret Hit Music. We hear their story in their own words, their successes, their challenges and their insights.
Let’s start by getting to know you. Can you please tell us a little bit about you and what you do?
I am Fabrizio Moreira, Founder of Secret Hit Music. Our business is committed to mentoring emerging artists by pairing them with his established songwriters and producers at Secret Hit and Quad Studios.
A great introduction and start to this interview. Can you please tell us, how did you start, from what age, and what made you decide to change direction and start?
Born in Manabi, Ecuador; I am started as a Ecuadorian politician and businessman to running the Moreira Organization, one of the world’s hottest digital agencies, Awarded INC 5000. Along the way I’ve become a prolific angel investor and venture capitalist, eventually co-founding the record label VIP Music Records, best known for managing the bookings of the rapper Soulja Boy from 2013-2014.
Thank you for that insight. So can you tell us…What does your business do and where is your company based?
Secret Hit is a culture, songwriting and producer collective based out of New York with partners in Miami, LA, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and Colombia. They work in Pop, Latin, Hip-Hop, Reggaeton, Trap and in addition to writing hits, also have a powerful focus on philanthropy.
We recently held a songwriters camp with BMI at Quad Studios in NY just before lockdown.
What’s the story behind your success? What led to your aha moment? how did you get to where you are now?
First of all persistence, that’s the main story behind everything, most people will give up reaching out to someone just because they do no respond to you in between 1-3 months and maybe even end up insulting the person. I can tell you stories of how I tried to reach out to someone and actually got to really work with them 3-4 years later.
I didn’t focus on the negative aspects or those who didn’t help at first. I focused on those who are ready to work, and focus on showing people we are here to do work and not just to show up. Our best advantage is that people have seen our work and that’s why those who didn’t have the time in the past now are making the time now. There are many doors that are opening now, some of those doors we maybe never go back to open but are there in case we really need them, so basically we focus on working hard and nothing else.
Thank you for sharing that. What’s been your life’s biggest lesson so far?
My biggest lesson either you go and do it or alternatively you see someone else get it done. One of the biggest challenges is that I was an outsider in the music industry, I didn’t play any music instruments, had zero previous work in music, but had a great background because of education and politics but nothing else so to prove myself so it was hard. Most people at the beginning saw me as a crazy guy, how can someone combine experience in politics with music? To overcome it I had to show success and grow until people saw we weren’t going to stop until we reach our goals. Until they saw we were accomplishing things and quickly growing that they start jumping in the moving car.
I will have the same approach to keep trying over and over and that is the only approach that I know works.
The only thing I know now that I wished I knew was that I need to keep saying is it’s no time to give up no matter how hard it becomes you have to keep going.
If you were to go back in time, what piece of advice would you give to your younger self?
To a younger me I will say you will get it done, anything you dream you go, and do it because you will get it done. I become an entrepreneur by accident at the age of 14 (we can talk about the story of the Nintendo / game console rentals etc)
To the people that doubt me, I will say nothing because the results are the best words I can use, and part of what I learned is to leave the door open to everyone including those that doubted you.
During the pandemic I had to remind myself that no matter how hard the storm is, we always have 3 choices, we Hide and let the storm pass and see how hard it hurt, we let the storm take us down, or we overcome the storm to become even bigger.
We’re nearly halfway through our interview so it’s a great time to ask how does your business run. What three tools make your business run better?
Google Suite has made our lives easier, for hosting documents, for sharing files, and of course for emailing.
What do you know now that you wished you had known before?
The only thing I know now that I wished I knew was that I need to keep saying is it’s no time to give up no matter how hard it becomes you have to keep going.
Anyone who starts anything should know, this is like hiking a mountain, you need to carry a bag pack with water with snacks. At first, it will go all fine, in the middle you will find your muscles are getting tired that you need a rest that you need water.
As you go higher it may get harder until you mastered it so if you are going to start something thinking there will be an easy route (or shortcut) remember “it’s not easy, it is no going to become easier, it is only going to become harder to reach the top of the mountain”.
So be ready and bring the tools you need so you can handle the route, and be ready to tell yourself when you start feeling the pain that you are at the middle, that you are closer to the top, to not give up. The pain is evidence of your work, that the route is never easy, and that you can do it.
What has been your greatest or proudest achievement or moment?
Building the Moreira Organization, into one of the world’s hottest digital agencies, and being awarded INC 5000 as one of the Most Fasted Growing private companies in the United States.
To finish our inspire questions…”We believe that sharing inspiring words can inspire others.” If there was one positive thing you would say to someone to inspire and empower them what would it be and why?
Is not easy, is not going be easier in time, it’s going to become harder actually…
